Reuters poll of economists tips Spain for World Cup win
This article made my day. I am also picking Spain to win the world cup, but I am heavily biased since my mother is Spanish. It is good to know that my profression has my back on this one though:)
So if the economists are right on this one we should expect to see Torres pulling this pose a few times on his way to winning the Golden Boot:)
I don’t trust those economists: they can’t even forecast things they’re ‘experts’ at, so how do expect them to get the football right?
PS. Torres looks underage; he even has the overly gelled hair.
So you are suggesting that we short Spain now right 😉
And although the profession pick Spain, I’m going rogue and picking Holland 😀
@rauparaha
Hey, our forecasting is ok – far man. They just would have followed market pricing after all.
And watch the comments about Torres!
It’s an old photo. Here is another for you:P

@agnitio
I have no doubt that Rauparaha would find that picture irresistible … in a platonic way
@Matt Nolan
Isn’t Torres a Spaniard who now claims to love Liverpool like home? Most Liverpudlians don’t like Liverpool! I think it just shows how easily his loyalty can be bought; and football fans talk about passion…
@rauparaha
As a self confessed fair weather football fan I don’t expect you to understand:P
@agnitio
As a devout fan of a team from the other side of the world I don’t expect you to see reason 😉
@rauparaha
indeed, I have too much passion to think logically about these things:P
@rauparaha
He has professed love for LFC from a young age my friend.
Still, we are economists – lets save the banter for the football stands/blogs 😉
Torres will probably be injured for most of the tournament but I’m sure Villa will do well enough. It’s hard to look past Spain but then this is a World Cup and anything can happen.
My completely impartial view suggests France are going to do it. 😉
@goonix
Agreed with all these points except France 😉
agree with some of these points but its gotta be ENGLAND for the cup no doubt
most of the investment banks seem to have a bit of time on their hands atm and have built models, written reports on who will win.
JP Morgan predict 1. England, 2. Spain, 3. Netherlands
UBS have put odds with top 4 Brazil 22%, Germany 18%, Italy 13% and Netherlands 8%
Goldman Sachs put odds for top 4 at Brazil 13.76%, Spain 10.46%, Germany 9.40% and England 9.38%
How can the banks forecast this??! They need to concentrate on their own work!
I’m sure Spain will do pretty well but it’s England all the way for me!
